Back in the day when people were still using GBA slot flash carts it was sometimes possible to make certain roms work that otherwise wouldn't by replacing the arm7 code (arm7.bin) in a rom with a different arm7.bin extracted from a donor rom. This was known as the 'max crass method' since the max media dock (a GBA to CF/IDE adapter) and Max Overload (commercial rom loader for the MMD) often required doing that. Since commercial rom loading in nds-bootstrap got it's start by someone reverse engineering Max Overload and then 'porting' the rom patches to work from the 3DS SD card instead of a GBA slot CF adapter and support for newer arm7.bins is still limited it is still sometimes necessary to use that old workaround. The 'donor rom' options simply automate that so you don't have to mess around with manually doing the arm7.bin hack with dslazy.
